The Courses

All four courses start and finish at our EventHQ at the rear of the Kaiteriteri Reserve Camp and follow the scenic Estuary track into the Kaiteriteri Mountain Bike Park.

Milnes Beatson Half Marathon Course

21.1km - highest point 295m - elevation gain 600m - ages 16+

The Half Marathon Course encompasses all that the Kaiteriteri Mountain Bike Park has to offer.

Beginning from the rear of the Camp, the Estuary Trail provides a serene “ warmup” spreading the competitors before they hit the “main course”.

The next 4km follows an undulating contouring track through shady bush as you begin to circumnavigate the entire 180 hectares of  the Park.

Then the climbing begins in earnest. The climb is of easy gradient and is totally runnable and an achievable challenge, as you ascend the newly formed Piki ki te Rā ( Climb to the Sun ) for 3km and 200m in ascent, meandering its way through the forest with several panoramic viewing points along the way, highlighting the vista of Kaiteriteri Recreational Reserve and its incredible beaches, Adele Island and the Abel Tasman National Park.

Piki ki te Rā - Climb to the Sun - the main climb of the Half Marathon & 16km courses - 200m ascent over 3km

Throughout the course, resident populations of kea, piwakawaka, ruru, korimako, and tūī keep the forest alive with birdsong while karearea and kaka are often sighted.

You reach the first summit ridge lookout at an elevation 280m , then take a breather along the undulating top forest road for approximately 7.5km to the second summit lookout.

It's then a swift descent of 6km down to the Estuary and the welcome Finish Shute and for those willing, an early winter refreshing dip on New Zealand’s best beach..!!
